Introducing Angel

Elizabeth asked Santa for another battery-operated zhu zhu pet for Christmas this year. She reasoned that her current hamster toy needed a friend. Santa apparently had other ideas.

When Elizabeth woke on Christmas morning, she found a hamster cage complete with a furry friend inside. Santa also left instructions on caring for her new female dwarf hamster. Elizabeth quickly settled on the name "Angel" since it would always remind her of Christmas.

Easily the most entertaining part of Christmas morning occurred when we opened Angel's cage for the first time to let Elizabeth hold her. Watching Brian try to capture the crazed rodent under the Christmas tree was hysterical. Thankfully Angel calmed down after a few minutes and began settling into life in her new home.

Now Santa was well aware that the class hamster met her demise in the Dean home back in April but I'm sure he figured that it was an accident and Elizabeth would love and take care of her new pet. Besides, if something happens to Angel, at least we can keep the tragedy in the family this time.

Elizabeth has already asked what will happen to Angel when we move back to Texas and we assured her that if Angel isn't allowed into the US then we will make sure she has a good home with friends in Singapore. Unfortunately, the average life span of a hamster in the Dean home to date would suggest we won't have to worry about that scenario!

I'm thankful Santa brought Elizabeth her own hamster because she loves animals and she can learn how to be a responsible care-giver for her new pet.

Welcome to the family, Angel!
