Megan's Birthday

Megan turned 7 last week and we enjoyed celebrating her special day. On Wednesday I brought some of Megan's favorite foods to school and ate lunch with the birthday girl. Later in the day Megan's class sang to her and enjoyed vanilla cupcakes with pink icing and sprinkles made by the Dean bakery.

In keeping with tradition, Megan chose her birthday dinner. Of all the restaurants near us, Megan wanted to dine at Hooter's. When I asked her why she chose that place, she replied, "Because the girls are so nice and pretty. I like their shirts and shorts and how I can see their belly buttons." How could I argue with that logic? She'll be horrified in 10 years when we remind her of this decision. Anyway, we had a fun dinner there with the all the pretty girls :)

Megan was excited to receive gifts from near and far. We gave her roller skates and Elizabeth gave her several water toys, including snorkel gear. Maybe Megan will get enough practice snorkeling in the pool that she can check out the Great Barrier Reef in a couple months. Megan was also delighted to receive clothes, accessories and toys from faraway family. Thanks for sending goodies across the ocean!

For her party, Megan invited 5 girlfriends and Elizabeth to go putt-putt golfing with her Sunday afternoon. The girls all seemed to enjoy making their way around the indoor course and their golf form (or lack thereof) was comical. After blowing out candles on her cake and opening presents, Megan's birthday celebration was complete.

So now our oldest daughter is 7. How did this happen so quickly? As I do every year, I shared Megan's birth story with her. I told her how excited we all were to meet her and that when she was born, I was surprised by how big she was when they placed her on my tummy. I was amazed at the sight of our baby girl. She was beautiful and her bright pink skin was so soft that I could barely feel it when I touched her. And she had strong lungs! (Megan laughs when I say that). I'll always remember her wailing while Brian proudly carried her around the delivery room smiling at her and telling her that everything would be okay. Our parenting adventure began that day, and seven years later, Megan continues to amaze me in more ways than I can count. Happy Birthday, Pumpkin!
